Last Week in the Green Room: Flowing, Funding & Filming

Spring is in full swing, and that means so is the Green Room. During the last days of April, we were thrilled to kick off the first week of six for our creative wellness residency program. The programming this week featured a variety of community resources, focused on both connection through our minds and bodies, as well as picking up valuable skills for overall livelihood.

From Body to Page

Starting things off, April 26th marked the first workshop, From Body to Page. This event was dedicated to the union of yoga and poetry - emphasizing the connection between mental and physical health. Local yoga instructor Tima Ozen led attendees in reflection through movement, focused on gaining insight from their bodies' feedback. This was then channeled into poetry guided by Heather Bowlan, founder of Philly Poetry LFG, taking the reflections from the yoga session and putting them into writing. Participants left with a new sense of familiarity, both with the practice of yoga and writing, and with themselves. If you missed this one, make sure to check out other mindfulness workshops coming up, especially Yoga and Yaps on Saturdays starting May 9th.

The second of a three-part series of financial literacy workshops took place in the Green Room on April 29th. Find the Funds is a Forbidden Fruit program designed for small businesses and local creatives looking to develop valuable financial skills. This free three-part series was led by Univest, a locally focused financial services company. It took attendees on an in depth journey through budget management and financial planning presented by real banking professionals. Creative wellness doesn’t just come from artistic expression; financial skills are incredibly important for growth, and this space will continue to develop into a resource for both.

Forbidden Fruit’s commitment to creative wellness goes hand in hand with storytelling. On April 30th, local videographer Dylan Morgan showed us just how to create compelling stories, through the medium of camerawork and video production. Morgan led the team through a comprehensive look into how photography and videography turn ideas to a reality. Attendees explored their own hands-on practice with practical techniques for content creation. A longtime collaborator with Forbidden Fruit, you can see the skills Morgan taught his class showcased in his coverage of the Green Room’s Grand Opening.

Up Next in The Green Room

Our first week of creative wellness programs was a success all around. With three big events, the space is growing alongside everyone that enters it. If any of these events interest you, be sure to stay tuned, as we have an action packed schedule in the space over the next couple months. The next three Saturdays will feature Yoga and Yaps, a guided yoga and creative networking session. Sunday the 10th, the room will become a wellness retreat for mothers in Philly, with Ground and Sound, a movement meditation session led by Crux and Stonez, followed by Pour Back In, a listening room experience led by Carley Simone. Sign up today and meet us in The Green Room.
